Gary White
A true son of Marshall, Gary White served as interim president of Marshall University from 2014-2016, a former member and past chair of the Marshall University Board of Governors, and a former member of the Marshall University Foundation’s Board of Directors.

White has more than fifty years in senior and executive level management in the coal and natural resource industries. The last forty of those fifty years he has served as Chief Executive Officer of both private and public companies.

In 2016, he was asked to serve as Interim CEO of Mountain Health Network, a newly formed healthcare system created by the merger of the two major medical facilities in Huntington, WV. Currently, Mr. White is retired from full-time employment but continues to be involved through his personal consulting firm, JRW, LLC, providing transactional, management and governmental services to its clients. Mr. White is a Director of United BankShares, Inc.(UBSI), serving as a member of its Executive, Audit (Chair), Compensation and Governance committees. He is the Chairman of the James H. Harless Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors of The Mining Mutual Insurance Company and serves on several other industry, advisory and charitable boards.

In 2003, White was inducted into Marshall’s Brad D. Smith College of Business Hall of Fame. Additionally, he’s the recipient of the 2006 Distinguished Achievement Award from the West Virginia Education Alliance, the 2004 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Marshall University Alumni Association, and the City of Hope “Spirit of Life Award.” Gary resides in Logan, WV with his wife, Jo Ann.
