Robin Cambier was hired as the associate tennis head coach with the Marshall Thundering Herd in January of 2022.
While at William & Mary, he served as the Interim Head Women’s Tennis Coach during the Fall of 2021 and as the Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach for the two seasons prior and helped the Tribe to numerous accomplishments. The Tribe reached the CAA Conference Finals, and Mila Saric earned CAA Conference Player of the Year in 2021. The Tribe recorded multiple ranked wins during Cambier’s time in Williamsburg, VA. As a team, beating #48-ranked East Carolina, and other regional and conference opponents including Maryland, VCU, Elon, Dartmouth, and Georgia State. Individually, Mila Saric recorded four ranked singles wins (beating the #40, #44, #88 and #90 players in the country) as well as Raffaela Alhach beating the #77 player in the country and the doubles tandem of Saric/Okuyama beating the #51 doubles team in the country.
Prior to his stop with the Tribe, Cambier spent a year with the Seminoles as the volunteer assistant coach for the men’s program, while earning his master’s degree at the No. 1 sport management program in the country. On the court, FSU finished the year ranked No. 26 nationally and posted 19 wins while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles tallied two All-ACC players, two Academic All-ACC honorees, four ITA Scholar-Athletes and an NCAA Singles Championship participant.
Prior to his time in Tallahassee, Cambier helped lead Washington State to a combined 61-44 record during four seasons. In 2018, the Cougars notched a program-record 21 wins and Michaela Bayerlova became the first Washington State player to win a match at the NCAA Singles Championship. Following the 2016 season, Cambier was recognized by the ITA as the Northwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year after helping WSU to a 17-9 mark and a final national ranking of No. 68.
In total, Washington State produced nine Academic All-Pac 12 selections, seven ITA Scholar-Athletes, four ITA All-Academic Team honors and three All-Pac 12 picks during his time on campus. The Cougars garnered five ITA Regional Awards as well, including two Arthur Ashe Award honorees (2015 and 2016), a Cissie Leary Award recipient (2015) and the Most Improved Senior and Player to Watch in 2018.
During his playing career at Oregon, Cambier rewrote the Ducks’ record book. He departed the program as its all-time leader in career singles wins (90), career doubles wins (93), season doubles wins (29), career combined (singles and doubles) wins (183), career doubles wins by a team (57), consecutive singles wins (15) and consecutive doubles wins (10). During his senior season, Cambier was selected to the All-Pac-12 Second Team and the Pac-12 All-Academic Team as an honorable mention choice. As a senior, he ended finished the year ranked No. 75 in the ITA singles ranking and third in the Northwest Region. In doubles, he ranked No. 55 nationally in 2014.
As a team, Oregon was 61-36 during Cambier’s four seasons. He led the Ducks to a 17-10 record as a senior in 2014 and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Oregon finished the year ranked No. 43 nationally during his final campaign.
Cambier also served three years as the men’s tennis team representative for Oregon’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), was a three-time Oregon Scholar-Athlete and was Oregon’s male recipient of the Pac-12 Tom Hansen Medal, given for performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership. Cambier earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Oregon in 2014.
Prior to joining the collegiate coaching ranks, Cambier worked with the Pac-12 Networks, serving a three-month internship in the Affiliate Sales and Marketing department in 2014. He also spent time as the assistant director of college placement and an assistant coach at the Weil Tennis Academy & College Preparatory School in Ojai, Calif.
