  • Induction:
    2003
  • Class:
    1968
Recruited to Marshall from Port Huron, Mich., by Coach Ellis Johnson, Bob Allen used a matchless work ethic to make himself a dominant rebounder and NBA draft pick. The 6-foot-9 center would average 11.2 rebounds per game over his time at Marshall, the third-best number in school history. Allen was especially effective later in his career – he averaged 13.8 rebounds per game in helping Marshall advance to the NIT final four as a junior and then with 14.2 per game in helping the Thundering Herd return to the NIT as a senior, leading the Mid-American Conference in rebounding both seasons and honored as a second-team All-MAC as a junior. Following his Marshall career, Allen was chosen by the San Francisco Warriors in the sixth round of the 1968 NBA Draft and appeared in 27 games as a rookie the following season. Allen was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.
