Herd Track Teams Successful During Busy Weekend

Marshall University's track teams competed in the Penn Relays and in the University of Cincinnati's Bearcat Classic over the weekend.

Marshall's men's 4x100-meter relay team finished 27th overall in the college division at the Penn Relays. The team, comprised of Andrew Blair, Terrance Tarpley, Derrick Dixon and B.J. Epps posted a time of 41.96 seconds. In addition to this, the men's Distance Medley Relay team recorded a season-best time of 10 minutes, 13.74 seconds. The DMR team was comprised of David Lyle, Phil Jones, Scott Johnson and Kevin Batey.

A pair of Kanawha Valley products made a good showing at the Bearcat Classic in Cincinnati. Lyle, a Poca High graduate, competed at the Penn Relays on Friday and competed again on Saturday in Cincinnati. The senior showed no signs of fatigue, as he finished second in the 800-meter run wth a time of 1 minute 53.70 seconds. Not to be out done, Nitro High product Josh Bradford matched the school-record in the Pole Vault with a vault of 16-feet to finish third in that event.

The Herd's Aaron Trammel also performed well at the Bearcat Classic. The junior from Manassas, Va., placed second in the shot put with a season-best throw of 50 feet, 11.5 inches and fourth in the discus with a throw of 151 feet.

Senior Becky Pouch recorded the best finish of the weekend for the Herd's women's team. Pouch, a native of Deltona, Fla., finished seventh in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2 minutes, 17.7 seconds. In addition to Pouch, freshman April Craver finished eighth in the discus with a season-best throw of 135 feet, 8 inches.
