Huskies Bite Herd In Three Games

10/13/2001

The Marshall University volleyball team (4-12, 2-6 MAC) was defeated by the Northern Illinois Huskies (10-4, 7-2 MAC) in three games Saturday night in the Cam Henderson Center, 30-19, 30-21, and 32-30.

?Northern Illinois played a very good match tonight,? said Marshall coach Steffi Legall. ?They really took us out of our offense with strategic serving. I?m glad we found some heart in the third game and played with some intensity, but tonight the better team won.?

The Huskies proved that they belonged in the upper echelons of the league, getting outstanding performances from Tenisha Wilkins (8 kills), Tera Lobdell (11 kills), Jen Vonderhaar (10 kills), and Rena Widboom (5 kills). UNI recorded 10 blocks on the night, including 3 solo blocks from Vonderhaar.

The Herd were paced by Isabell Anderer (Sinsheim, Germany), who recorded 8 kills in 21 total attempts. Nichole Michal (Louisville, Kent.) and Tracy King (Miami, Fla.) also provided good efforts for Marshall. Michal garnered 7 kills, while King led the team with 10 kills.

Marshall travels to take on the University of Akron on October 19th. That game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
