TOLEDO, Ohio-The Marshall University women?s volleyball team went toe-to-toe with conference rival Toledo, but came up short to lose the match, 2-3. The Rockets (8-4, 4-2 MAC) defeated the Herd (3-10, 1-4 MAC) in five games, 30-32, 30-22, 28-30, 30-22, 15-8.
The Herd started the match strong defeating the Rockets in the first game, 32-30. Toledo came back to win the second match from the Herd. Marshall fought hard claiming the third game, 30-28, but the Rockets wouldn?t give up and won the last two games to claim the match.
"Unfortunately, we had a breakdown in passing and serving this evening," said head coach Steffi Legall. "I am very proud of the effort and battle the girls put forth until the end."
Marshall will compete against the Eastern Michigan Eagles tomorrow evening in Ypsilanti, Mich. at 7:00 p.m.
"When you go five (games) with any team in this league it shows a good team effort," Legall said. "We just hope to rebound and be ready for tomorrow night's match against Eastern Michigan."
The Herd will be back in action at the Cam Henderson Center next weekend when they compete against Central Michigan, Friday, October 12 and Northern Illinois, Saturday, October 13. Both matches will start at 7:00 p.m.
