Volleyball Loses Contest to Bobcats
11/13/2001
ATHENS, Ohio? The Marshall University volleyball team put forth a solid effort, but came up short as Ohio defeated the Herd, 3-1, in Athens, Ohio. The Bobcats (9-16,7-9 MAC) defeated Marshall (6-20,4-13 MAC), 30-21,20-30,30-24,30-21.
?The key difference in tonight?s match was blocking, said head coach Steffi Legall.? ?We got outblocked by Ohio. They had a good block setup and were able to capitalize on that with the exception of game 2. We played exceptionally well in that game. But, the difference in tonight?s match was the blocking and the execution.?
Jodi Fick (junior/Freemont, Ohio) shined for the Thundering Herd with 15 kills (.343) and 20 defensive digs. Isabell Anderer (sophomore/Sinsheim, Germany) added 15 kills and 3 service aces. Grace Jones stepped up with 13 kills, 10 digs and 2 blocking assists.
?Offensively, Jodi, Grace and Isabell had great play tonight,? said Legall. ?I am very proud of them. Also Kristen (Bailey) was able to get some good passes in at the setter position, but it wasn?t enough to be successful against a strong Ohio team who dominated at the net.?
Marshall returns to action Saturday night, November 17, at Miami when they will play their last match of the season. The Redhawks defeated Marshall, 3-1, last week. The match is slated for 7 pm at Millett Hall.
