Men's Soccer Opens 2001 Season at Home
8/30/2001
HUNTINGTON, WV.? Marshall University men?s soccer team opens the 2001 season at home on Saturday, September 1, against Cleveland State University. The match at Sam Hood Field is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
?We are excited about opening the season at home for the first time in a long time,? head coach Bob Gray said. ?The first couple of matches will be used as a measuring stick for our team as we prepare for the long season ahead.?
Marshall returns nine starters from last year?s squad that finished 14-5-1 and shared the Mid-American Conference title. Junior forward Byron Carmichael, the 2000 MAC Player of the Year, needs only 12 goals this season to break Andy Zulauf?s (1981-1985) career mark of 39 at Marshall.
Cleveland State head coach Pete Curtis played under Gray at Alderson-Broaddus College and is looking for his 100th career win.
Any youth 18 and younger will receive admission to the game for $1 if they are wearing a youth soccer jersey. Regular admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. A Go Herd Card can be purchased at the game for $40 for adults and $25 for youth. The cardholder will receive admission to all home events except football and men?s and women?s basketball.
