Byron Carmichael Named MAC Player of the Week

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-Marshall University men?s soccer forward Byron Carmichael (Jr., Lumberton, NJ) has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week ending September 9, 2001.
Carmichael scored five goals in Marshall?s two victories at the Nike Goal Rush Classic in Fresno, CA. He scored two goals in the Herd?s 2-0 victory over Fresno State on Friday, September 7, and recorded his third career hat-trick in the 5-1 victory over Cal State Northridge on Sunday, September 9. His performace at the tournament earned him the Offensive Most Valuable Player award.
Carmichael currently leads the MAC in points (12) and goals (6) and needs only six goals to break Marshall?s career record of 39 held by Andy Zulauf (1981-1985).
Along with the honors for Carmichael, Goalkeeper Jeremy Williams (Fr., Wheelersburg, OH) was named Defensive MVP of the Gold Rush Classic and Wayne Bennett (Boksburg, S. Africa) and Dennis Ahebwa (Kampala, Uganda) were named to the All-Tournament team.
