Volleyball Team Defeats Buffalo, 3-1

9/21/2001

Huntington, W.Va. ? The Marshall University women?s volleyball team started off slow against Buffalo, but then picked it up and held on for a 3-1 victory over the Bulls for their first Mid-American Conference victory of the season.

?I?m pleased with our first conference win,? head coach Steffi Legall said. ?I was pleased that we came back after struggling like we did in the first game and pleased that our players came back and played with confidence tonight.

Isabelle Anderer (Sophomore/Sinsheim, Germany) and Jodi Fick (Junior/Fremont, OH) led the Marshall attack all evening. The duo pounded out a total of 41 kills. Both girls set their career high?s. Grace Jones (Junior/Lakeland, FL) also had a career match with a total of 20 kills. Anderer ended the match with a total of 23 kills and Fick with 18. Setter, Andrea Kastein (Sophomore/Pittsburgh, PA) set her career assist record ending the evening with 62.

The Herd will return to action tomorrow evening when it takes on MAC rival Kent State. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.

?Just having that first conference win under our belts is important,? Legall said. Kent State is a good team so we are expecting quite a battle, but if we come out with the same determination as tonight, I think it will be quite a good match.?

The Herd is now 3-5 on the season overall and 1-0 in Mid-American Conference competition.
