Volleyball Team Battles Kent Before Falling, 3-1
9/22/2001
The Marshall University volleyabll team went toe-to-toe with Mid-American Conference foe Kent State, but came up short as The Golden Flashes defeated the Herd, 3-1. Kent State (7-2, 2-0 MAC) defeated The Herd (3-6, 1-1 MAC) in four games, 37-35, 24-30, 30-26, 30-22.
?You have to give credit to Kent State for playing with intensity,? head coach Steffi Legall said. ?They challenged us in every facet of the game. Our team played with a lot of heart. It?s still very early in the season and I think it was a great experience to start with. It shows that we need to mature a little bit. We had a couple of mental breakdowns that a mature team probably wouldn?t make. I?m pleased with our intensity. Our team played really hard. We just need to improve.?
The Herd was led by Jodi Fick (Junior/Fremont, OH) who had 14 kills. Isabell Anderer helped with a total of 10 kills.
Marshall will travel to Morehead, KY on Tuesday where they will compete against Morehead State University at 7:00.
?We?re excited to play Morehead,? Legall said. ?We still have a bone to pick with them since they beat us on our home court last year. The girls will be ready to go out and improve against them and just play well.?
The Herd will be at home next weekend when they compete against Conference rivals Ohio on Friday and Ball State on Sunday.
