Marshall Loses in Four to Ball State

9/30/2001

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? The Marshall University volleyabll team dropped its fourth consecutive match Sunday afternoon. Ball State (9-4, 5-0 MAC) defeated the Herd in four games, 30-23, 30-24, 28-30, 30-28.

Marshall started off the match 0-2, but managed to fight back to claim the third game, 30-28, but couldn?t keep the momentum going and the Cardinals claimed the fourth game.

?I thought we played a very good volleyball match this afternoon,? head coach Steffi Legall said. ?We executed our game plan but unfortunately it was not enough to beat Ball State. I thought we rebounded very well from Friday and we played as a unit. You have to give Ball State a lot of credit for not losing their compsure. I think they are the team to beat in the West Division this year.?

Marshall was lead by sophomore Tracey King, a native of Miami, Fl. King led the Herd with 20 kills, 2 service aces and nine defensive digs.

Marshall returns to action, when it travels to Toledo and Eastern Michigan next weekend. The Herd will take on the Rockets, October 5, in Toledo and will then travel to Ypsilanti, MI where they will take on the Eagles of Eastern Michigan.

?I think we are going to be very confident going into our matches next weekend against Eastern Michigan and Toledo,? Legall said.

The Herd falls to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the MAC.
