Volleyball Drops Second Match Of Road Trip To Ball State
10/26/2002
Muncie, Indiana--The Marshall University volleyball team (16-7, 6-3) fell to the Ball State Cardinals 3-1 (17-30, 25-30, 30-20, 21-30) Saturday night in Muncie, Indiana.
?We faced a hungry Ball State team tonight who came out with extreme intensity and overpowering play,? said Marshall coach Mitch Jacobs. ?We had an unbelievable game three, but you have to give credit to Ball State for putting us away in game four.?
The Cardinals (14-7, 9-1 MAC) stung the Herd early by taking the first two games rather easily. Marshall responded in game three, as they scorched BSU with a .469 hitting percentage (17-2-32) and took the game 30-20. Ball State, who were defeated soundly by MAC East leading Akron on Friday night, would not be denied of a home win, holding the Herd to a negative hitting percentage (-.039, 12-14-51) in the deciding game.
Marshall was led by Amber Sims (Ney, Ohio), who had 12 kills, and Heidi Kuethe (Normal, Ill.) who had ten kills. Katie Stein (Sussex, Wis.) posted her second double-double of the season with 42 assists and ten digs, while Ashley Barnard (Maumee, Ohio) led the Thundering Herd with 20 digs.
Freshman Sarah Obras led the Cardinals with 17 kills.
Marshall takes on division leading Akron Friday night in the Henderson Center. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
