Wallace Earns MAC East Honor

10/7/2002

Butchie Wallace

Marshall University junior running back Franklin "Butchie" Wallace (Myrtle Beach, SC) was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Marshall's 42-21 victory over Kent State.

Wallace rushed for a season-high 149 yards in the game on only 15 carries. He got Marshall out of trouble on the first play of the game, taking a handoff in the end zone and going 69 yards to help get the Herd ground attack rolling.

Wallace closed the day strong as well, capping a 13-play fourth quarter drive with a 32-yard touchdown run.

Wallace joins backfield mate Brandon Carey and kicker/punter Curtis Head as MAC honorees so far this season.

The Herd will return to action on Saturday when the University at Buffalo Bulls visit Marshall Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. and tickets for the game are available through the Marshall athletic ticket office by calling 1-800-THE-HERD.
