Christin Bimberg signs her National Letter of Intent with the Thundering Herd. |
Huntington, W. Va.--Marshall head volleyball coach Mitch Jacobs has inked three players this fall to National Letters of Intent to begin play for the Thundering Herd in the fall of 2003. Christin Bimberg, from Schwerin, Germany, Erin Jasin, from Lambertville, Michigan, and Anja Wilk, from Plate, Germany, have all signed to play for MU next season.
?I?m real happy with this class,? said Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs. ?All are excellent students, and I think they can fulfill the three positions that we are losing in our seniors.?
Bimberg is a multi-dimensional player that has considerable club experience in Germany. Listed at 5?11, she played on the same VC Parchim club team as fellow signee Wilk as both a setter and an outside hitter. Two years ago VC Parchim won the German championship, and last season the team finished second.
?Christin provides good depth at the setter or outside hitter position,? said Jacobs. ?She is very strong with great hands and excellent ball control.?
Jasin comes to Marshall from Lambertville, Michigan as a 6?0 outside hitter. She played at the club level for the Toledo Volleyball Club and in high school at Central Catholic High School in Toledo. Her club team made the junior national tournament in 2000 and 2001, and for Central Catholic, she led the team to a runner-up finish in 2000 in their division. She was an honorable mention all-district selection in 2001 and named to the all-city second team in the same year. Off the court, Jasin is a member of the National Honor Society and the Academic Honor Rolls, as well as serving as a volunteer at the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center for the past six years.
?Erin brings us another 6?0 hitter to our team,? said Jacobs. ?She?s a lefty, which fills a great need for us. We feel that she is the best left-handed hitter that plays in Ohio.?
Wilk is a 6?0 middle hitter with great quickness and a quick arm swing. Like Bimberg, Wilk played on the VC Parchim team that won the German championship two years ago. She has been playing competitively at the club level since 1996.
?Anja is a very quick middle hitter who will fit in very well in our up-tempo offense,? said Jacobs. ?Her participation at a high club level in Germany will bring tremendous experience to our team next season.?
Marshall is hoping to sign one more player during the spring signing period.
