Marshall Volleyball Drops Five-Set Thriller To End Season

AKRON, OH--Marshall will enter the Mid-American Conference Tournamant Tuesday at Eastern Michigan after dropping its third consecutive five-set match Saturday at Akron (33-31, 31-33, 25-30, 30-18, 8-15) to close out the season.
After taking the first set 33-31, the Herd fell behind losing the next two sets. Marshall, however, still had some fight left in them and dominated the fourth set 30-18. The Zips came back and won the fifth and deciding set.
Senior Heidi Kuethe recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs. Senior Grace Jones led all players with a game-high 20 kills. Jones finished the weekend?s two matches with 35 total kills. Freshman Katie Stien also had a game high 60 assists and also contributed 17 digs. Stein finishes the season with a total 1, 267 total assists. Senior Jodi Fick led the Herd with 23 digs. Junior Tracy King added 18 kills for the Herd.
Marshall (20-11, 11-7 MAC) travels to Ypsilanti, Michigan Tuesday to open the MAC Tournament against the Eastern Michigan Eagles. This will be the Herd?s third match against EMU, with EMU taking both regular season matches.
