Heidi Kuethe, Katie Stein Make All-MAC Teams
11/29/2002
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. ? Marshall volleyball player Heidi Kuethe was named to the All-Mid-American Conference second team, while teammate Katie Stein was named to the All-Freshman team, announced Wednesday by the conference office in Cleveland. Kuethe is the first Thundering Herd player to be named to the team since Alisha Bable in 1997, while Stein?s selection to the All-Freshman team is MU?s first since Kuethe and Sara Boyles accomplished the feat in 1999.
Kuethe totaled 303 kills, 332 digs, and 146 blocks for the 2002 season. The 146 blocks was the third-best single-season total in Marshall history. Kuethe was a captain on this year?s squad, a team that won 14 more matches than they did last season.
Stein emerged as the team?s starting setter early in the year and progressed through the year to have one of the Herd?s best season?s ever. The freshman from Sussex, Wisconsin, had 1,319 assists and 56 service aces in her inaugural season with the Thundering Herd. Her assists total is the third best single-season total in the history of MU volleyball, while her service aces total is the second best total in school history.
