Baseball Adds Another Pitcher for the 2002 Season

2/7/2002

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.?Billy Bidwell, a junior transfer from Trinity (TX) University, has joined the Marshall University baseball team for the 2002 season, head coach Dave Piepenbrink announced today.

?Billy gives us another arm out of the bullpen for the upcoming season,? Piepenbrink stated. ?He has a side-arm delivery which has proven to be extremely effective.?

The 6?4?, 200-pound pitcher from Broomfield, Colo., made seven appearances last season for Trinity. He compiled a 2-0 record with a 5.40 ERA. In 18.1 innings pitched, he allowed 20 hits, walked 14, while striking out 11 hitters.

Prior to Trinity, Bidwell had a standout career at Arvada High School in Denver, Colo. Under his leadership, the team went on to win the conference championship during his senior season.

Bidwell also spent last summer pitching for the Delaware Valley Gulls of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. Current Marshall assistant coach Tom Carty was the pitching coach for the Valley Gulls during that period.

Marshall opens the 2002 season with a two-game series at Winthrop University, a 2001 NCAA tournament team, on February 9-10, in Rock Hill, So. Car.
