Baseball Falls to UNC Asheville 7-2

ASHEVILLE, N.Car.?The Marshall University baseball team fell to the University of North Carolina at Asheville 7-2 in action today. The loss drops the Thundering Herd to 7-8 while UNC Asheville improves to 2-6.
"A couple of innings decided this game," head coach Dave Piepenbrink said. "They were just able to capitalize on our mistakes."
UNC Asheville scored all the runs they needed in the first inning when the Bulldogs put three on the board. Denver Edick started the scoring when he hit a two-run blast over the left field wall. The Bulldogs added another run in the inning when Grant Rembert singled to score Curtis Moncus.
Marshall?s only runs came in the third inning when David Colangelo?s double scored Mike Koitsopoulos and Aaron Amburgey to cut the lead to 3-2.
However, UNC Asheville added four runs in the fourth and the Thundering Herd were unable to score again as the Bulldogs cruised to a 7-2 victory.
Chris Fritz (1-2) went three innings, allowing six runs, four earned, for the loss. Steven Cook (1-1) pitched 6.2 innings to pick up the win for UNC Asheville.
Marshall will return to action tomorrow when they face the University of Akron at 2:30 p.m. in Asheville, N.Car., in a non-conference game.
