Baseball Falls to Eastern Kentucky 14-6

RICHMOND, Kent.-The Marshall University baseball team fell behind early and could not recover as they lost 14-6 to Eastern Kentucky University. The loss drops the Thundering Herd to 8-11 on the season while EKU improved to 5-14.
After a scoreless first inning, the Colonels took the early lead by scoring five runs in the second, taking a 5-0 lead. Marshall was able to rally in the third when Matt White hit a three run home run over the left field wall to score Joe Shetler and David Colangelo.
After scoring two runs in the fifth, and Marshall answered with one in the sixth, the Colonels answered with one run in the bottom of the sixth when Chris Grynaviski scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 8-4.
The Thundering Herd mounted one final rally in the eighth, by scoring two runs to cut the lead to 8-6. White drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Marty Rini and Clay DeSantis reached on a fielder?s choice that allowed David Colangelo to score. EKU, however, put the game away in the bottom of the inning by scoring six runs to make the final 14-6.
Scott Santa (1-1) picked up the win for EKU while Kevin Ruhl took the loss for Marshall.
Marshall will return to action on March 28, when the face the University at Buffalo at 3:00 p.m. at University Heights. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Buffalo, NY; however, poor field conditions have forced the game to be moved to Huntington, W.Va.
