Baseball Signs Two Pitchers for 2003 Season

4/22/2002

Huntington, W.Va.-Marshall University head baseball coach Dave Piepenbrink announced today the signing of two pitchers for the 2003 season. Fritz Conrad, a left-handed pitcher from Daytona Beach Community College (Fla.) and David Goodson, a left-handed pitcher from Tallmadge, Ohio, have signed letter of intents to play baseball with the Thundering Herd.

?We are extremely excited about signing these two quality pitchers,? Piepenbrink said. ?Both will have an opportunity to contribute a great deal to the continued improvement of our program.?

Conrad, a sophomore pitcher at Daytona Beach, will enter school next fall as a junior and should provide an immediate impact for the Thundering Herd. The 6?3?, 190-pound, left-hander is 2-4 on the season at Daytona, has two complete games with 47 innings pitched and 41 strikeouts.

Conrad went to Daytona Beach after a stellar career at West Orange High School in Florida.

?Fritz is a guy who will be able to step into our starting rotation immediately,? pitching coach Tom Carty said. ?He is the type of guy that, as his velocity improves, could possibly pitch at the next level. We are very excited to bring him in as a part of our pitching staff.?

Goodson, a 6?3, 175-pound senior at Tallmadge High School, is currently 1-0 on the young season. Tallmadge HS is currently ranked #23 in this week?s USA Today Top 25 High School Baseball poll. In addition, he was recently ranked as one of the Top 100 players in the state of Ohio by a national scouting service.

?As a freshman we expect Goodson to see some innings,? Carty said. ?He has a solid fastball and will be able to develop into a good pitcher for us over the next three to four years.?
