Baseball Announces Hiring of Two Assistant Coaches
8/14/2002
Huntington, W.Va.-Marshall University head baseball coach Dave Piepenbrink has announced the addition of two assistant coaches to the Thundering Herd staff. Chad Miller and Brad Stromdahl will join Marshall and will serve as the second assistant coach and volunteer assistant coach, respectively.
?The hiring of these two young assistants is just another step in putting Marshall in position for a Mid-American Conference Championship,? Piepenbrink said.
Miller joins the Thundering Herd staff after a year as an assistant coach at Penn State University-Beaver. During the season, Miller served as hitting and pitching coach for the team. In addition to his on-field duties, he served as the team?s recruiting coordinator and strength and conditioning coach.
Miller played in college at Cleveland State University and Slippery Rock University. After one season at CSU, he transferred to Slippery Rock where he was a catcher and outfielder on the 2000 team that competed in the Division II College World Series.
?We are very excited about hiring Chad to our staff,? Piepenbrink said. ?He will be responsible for our catchers and will assist with our hitters and recruiting efforts. He has recruiting experience and should help us continue to bring in quality players from the northeast.?
Stromdahl comes to Marshall after coaching the Alexandria Beetles of the Northwoods Summer Collegiate League. He played in college at Southwest State University in Minnesota. During his time there, Stromdahl earned second team all-central region honors in 1999 and helped lead his team to a Northern Sun Conference championship and a school record for wins with 31.
Stromdahl will be in charge of coaching the outfielders and assisting with the Thundering Herd catchers.
?This will be the first time our program will have a full-time volunteer and we are fortunate to have a coach of Brad?s caliber fill the position,? Piepenbrink said. ?He comes from a winning program and will bring experience and enthusiasm to our staff and team.?
Stromdahl is a native of Minocqua, Wisc., and is currently finishing his master?s degree in management from Southwest State University.
