Baseball Signs Two More for 2003

8/9/2002

Huntington, W.Va.-Marshall University head baseball coach Dave Piepenbrink announced today the signing of two more players for the 2003 season. Adam Frederick, an infielder from Franklin High School in Franklin, Penn., and Fred Haden III, a second baseman from Madison High School in Alexandria, Va., have signed letters of intent to play baseball for the Thundering Herd in 2003.

?We are excited to have Adam and Fred join the Thundering Herd,? Piepenbrink said. ?They both will be solid freshman infielders who will make our program better.?

Frederick hit .469 throughout his career and was named the 2002 Most Valuable Player of the Tri-County Athletic Conference. During the 2002 season, he hit over .500 with eight home runs, 34 RBI and 31 runs scored.

In addition, Frederick was named to the all-conference team each of the last three years. Over the course of his career, his team compiled a record of 76-15.

?Adam is a versatile infielder with power from the left side,? Piepenbrink said.

Haden III comes to Marshall from Madison High School where he batted .407 as a senior. Considered a defensive specialist, Haden III helped lead MHS to a 29-0 record and a state championship. Madison finished the 2002 season ranked third in the country.

For his performance in 2002, he was named second team all-northern region. He was also a two-time member of the Liberty District All-Conference team.

?Fred comes to us from an outstanding high school program,? Piepenbrink said. ?He is a solid defensive player who can out the ball in play.?

The two signings increase the total number of signees for next year to 15.
