Volleyball Loses to Northern Illinois in Huskie Sweep

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? Following an emotional high from Friday?s five-game slugfest victory over Ball State, Marshall fell to the visiting Northern Illinois Huskies 3-0 (25-30, 23-30, 21-30) in Mid-American Conference volleyball action at Gullickson Hall Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Marshall (13-8, 3-2 MAC) came out of the gates with a sluggish start, registering a -.023 hitting percentage in game one and losing 30-25. Games two and three would see only a slight improvement in hitting percentage, .030 and .000, respectively. For the match, Northern Illinois (14-4, 3-3 MAC) hit at a .144 clip.
A trio of NIU players, Megan Markowski, Corinne Walsh and Tera Lobdell, recorded a match-high nine kills. Marie Zidek assisted on 30 Huskie points.
Nickie Sanlin (Fairview Heights, Ill.) collected nine kills for Marshall, while Ashley Barnard (Maumee, Ohio) and Katie Stein (Sussex, Wis.) led in digs (8) and assists (25), respectively.
NIU outblocked the Herd 10-6 in a service-error plagued match by both teams. The Huskies tallied nine service errors to the Herd?s 11 errors.
Up next for Marshall is a road trip to Michigan, where the Herd will face-off with Western Michigan and Central Michigan on Friday and Saturday.
