LEXINGTON, Va. - The Virginia Military Keydets defeated the Thundering Herd men's soccer team, 2-0 on Saturday at Patchin Field.

Marshall (4-10-0, 1-3-0 MAC) played a strong first half and entered the intermission scoreless. VMI (4-10-0, 0-5-0 Big South) scored at the 7 minute mark of the second half when Mike Lloyd scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year. Charles Nweke added a second goal for the Keydets in the last minute of the game.

Sophomore Jeremy Ashe (Cinnaminson, NJ) led the team with three shots on goal. Both teams finished up with ten shots. Senior goalie Chris McKinney (Princeton, WV) finished with five saves on seven shots while VMI goalie Brian Douglas had four saves in earning the shutout.

Marshall Coach Bob Gray was disappointed with the loss.

"We dominated the play in the first half, but we could not get the ball in the net," Gray said. "The loss is disappointing. We had some momentum from the last few games, but now it's back to the drawing board to get ready for the three-game homestand next week."

The Herd's homestand starts on Tuesday night when they face Alderson-Broaddus at 7 p.m. at Sam Hood Field. The homestand ends with the final MAC games of the regular seaon when Marshall faces Bowling Green on Friday at 5:00 and Kentucky on Sunday at 2:30. Friday night's game is Parents Night and the game on Sunday afternoon is Senior Day.

The two weekend games are part of doubleheaders with the women's team. The women face Toledo on Friday night at 7 p.m. and play host to Bowling Green on Sunday at noon. Admission to all home soccer games is free.
