BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Canisius College, led by a 20-kill, 13-dig effort from Christina Wildes, overcame the Marshall Thundering Herd 3-2 in Saturday volleyball action at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Griffs won by scores of 25-30, 30-27, 30-24, 27-30, 15-13.
Marshall (15-11, 5-4 Mid-American Conference) received double-double performances from Isabell Anderer (Sinsheim, Germany) and Tracey King (Miami, Fla.). Anderer went for 20 kills and 16 digs while King gathered 21 kills and 15 digs.
Canisius (13-11) dropped the first game but topped the Herd in the next two stanzas on the way to fighting to a two-point victory in the decisive game five.
Marshall recorded an overall higher team hitting percentage than Canisius, .274 to .206. The Griffs' Kim Hoffman contributed a double-double in the form of 13 kills and 13 digs.
Herd freshman Anja Wilk (Plate, Germany) notched seven blocks (1 solo), but Canisius outblocked MU 12-11 for the match.
The Herd returns to action on Oct. 31 when they take on the Miami RedHawks at 7 p.m. from Gullickson Hall Gymnasium.
