CLEVELAND ? The Mid-American Conference announced on Wednesday that Marshall University?s Nicole Michal (Louisville, Ky.) was chosen as an all-MAC honorable mention selection in a poll conducted by the league?s 13 head volleyball coaches.
Michal?s selection to the MAC postseason honorable mention team comes on the heels of the Thundering Herd?s first ever conference tournament victory Tuesday versus Toledo at the Cam Henderson Center. The senior led MU with 12 kills in the contest to go along with three blocks in a 3-0 sweep of the Rockets.
The outside hitter is Marshall?s leader in attack percentage (.304, fifth in the MAC), kills (350, 2.87/game), total attempts (868) and is third in blocks (106). Michal?s current attack percentage would rank her in second place in school history for a single-season, behind only Cindy Bryant?s .318 percentage in 1988.
"The greatest part about Nicole being named to this team is that personal recognition is the last thing she thinks about," Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "She works hard on and off the court and its great that that effort is recognized."
Michal becomes the sixth player in Marshall history to garner a performance-based all-MAC award, following an all-freshman team nod to Katie Stein (Sussex, Wis.) and an all-MAC second team selection for former Herd standout Heidi Kuethe last season.
The No. 7 Herd will take on the No. 2 seed Central Michigan Chippewas at 1 p.m. at Ball State?s Worthen Arena in the MAC quarterfinals.
