Marshall and Charleston Southern Baseball Game Suspended Due to Rain
2/22/2003
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Marshall led Charleston Southern 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when rain hit the Charleston area, causing a two-hour rain delay and subsequently suspending the game until noon on Sunday. Due to the suspension, Marshall?s scheduled game with George Mason University on Sunday has been cancelled.
Senior Rick Suter (St. Clairsville, Ohio) pitched three innings of no-hit baseball, striking out six Charleston Southern hitters before the rains came.
?He (Suter) was in control of the game,? said Marshall head coach Dave Piepenbrink. ?It?s just too bad that he wasn?t able to finish it out.?
Freshman Chris Koutsavlis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) will pick up where Suter left off, with a 2-1 count and no outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Koutsavlis was scheduled to get his first career start versus George Mason on Sunday, but will now have to wait for that opportunity.
Francois Larmore (Magnolia, N.J.) hit his first career home run in the second inning to give the Herd (2-2) the 1-0 lead.
Marshall and Charleston Southern will finish the game at Patiots Point Field, College of Charleston?s home venue, because of poor field conditions at Buccaneer Field. The Thundering Herd lost 6-2 to the host Cougars on Friday night in its first game at the Charleston Challenge.
