Compton Passes NCAA Qualifying Mark Again At Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, NC?For the second straight meet, Marshall senior Erin Compton surpassed the NCAA Regional provisional qualifying mark in the discus throw. The Oak Hill, W.Va. native threw 160-feet-1 inch which was good enough for fifth place in the event at the 155 team Raleigh Relays this weekend.
Compton came up three feet short of qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in the women?s hammer throw. Her distance of 165-feet-5 inches was good enough for 10th place in the event.
The Thundering Herd had a couple of athletes come just short of qualifying for the NCAA Reginoals. Senior Mark Littlejohn came within five-tenths of a second of qualifying in the 100 meter dash. The Maple Shade, NJ native placed 45th with a time of 11 seconds.
Junior Andrea Perry came within six-tenths of a second of qualifying for the 100m hurdles. The Cannleton, W.Va. native placed 37th in the event with a time of 14.76. The qualifying time for the men?s 100 meter is 10.50 and 14.10 for the women?s 100 meter hurdles.
Marshall had strong performances all around. For the men, freshman Zach Helm placed ninth in the men?s hammer throw with a distance of 165-feet-8 inches. Junior Terry Stahl placed 19th in the men?s shot put with a distance of 49-feet-0.15 inches.
On the women?s side, junior Sarah Corley placed 17th in section III in the women?s 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:40.62. Junior Shelby Pride placed 29th in section III and 17th in section II in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Marshall returns to action Saturday in Columbus, Ohio at the Ohio State University Relays.
