Baseball Team Heads to EKU to Face Colonels

RICHMOND, Ky. ? The Marshall University baseball team will attempt to win its second consecutive game versus the Ohio Valley Conference?s Eastern Kentucky Colonels at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Turkey Hughes Field.
The Thundering Herd (14-24-1, 5-11 MAC) and Colonels (16-16, 5-3 OVC) split last season?s two-game series, with Marshall winning game two by a 20-10 final score at University Heights. EKU downed the Herd in the first meeting 14-6.
Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series 27-18.
Marshall?s Chris Koutsavlis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) will take to the mound for the Thundering Herd to face EKU senior Brad Schmittou.
Koutsavlis (4-1) threw his first career complete-game shutout in his last outing, April 12 at Buffalo. The freshman scattered nine hits and struck out two Bulls with no walks in the game.
Schmittou (2-1) has a 6.09 ERA in 34 innings pitched this season.
EKU has won its last two games, including a 10-run victory over Tennessee Martin on Saturday. Marshall dropped six of its last seven contests, including a 3-1 series loss to Mid-American Conference foe Kent State last weekend at University Heights.
The Colonels? Josh Anderson leads the team in hitting with a .467 batting average, while Neil Sellers, the reigning OVC Player of the Week, paces EKU with 54 RBIs and nine home runs.
Marshall?s Corie O?Bryan (Frederick, Md.) is fourth in the MAC in hits (53) and leads the team with a .361 batting average. The junior third baseman led the Thundering Herd in the Kent State series, going 9-for-16 for a .562 average.
