Marshall Throwers Have Good Day At McDonald's Invitational

ATHENS, Ohio?Ohio University?s Goldsberry Track is becoming a hot spot for Marshall throwers this season. Junior Terry Stahl qualified for the NCAA Regionals in Fairfax, Va. in the men?s hammer throw with a throw of 180-feet-1 inch, surpassing the qualifying mark by one foot.
Stahl joins senior Erin Compton as the second Marshall track athlete to qualify for the NCAA Regionals this season. Stahl won the men?s hammer throw and placed third in the shot put with a throw of 50-feet-2.5 inches.
Compton won the women?s discus throw for her sixth career discus title and 10th career victory. The Oak Hill, W.Va. native threw the discus 159-feet-4 inches, surpassing the qualifying mark for the third consecutive meet. Compton defeated second place finisher Ohio?s Mary Williams by 18-feet-5 inches. She also finished second in the women?s hammer throw behind Buffalo?s Faith Thompson with a throw of 163-feet-10 inches.
The Thundering Herd had strong performances all around at the McDonald?s Invitational. Junior Misha Piper finished fourth in the women?s 200 meter dash with a time of 25.89 and ninth in the women?s 100 meter with a time of 13.06. Sophomore Stephanie Eastman placed second in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:49.64 and eighth in the women?s 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.35.
Junior Sarah Corley placed fifth in the women?s 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:47.and senior Mandy Halsey finished second in the women?s javelin throw with a distance of 121-feet.
For the men?s team, senior Phil Jones took third place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.26. Craig Swisher finished third in the men?s 3,000 meter steeplechase running the race in 9:44.31. Freshman Ryan Rader finished second in the pole vault with a height of 15-feet.
The women?s team placed fifth overall with 69 points. Buffalo won the women?s title. The men?s team finished sixth overall with 55 points. Nationally ranked Eastern Michigan won the men?s crown.
The Marshall Track and Field Teams will be back in competition Saturday in Oxford, Ohio at the Miami Invitational.
