Herd and Zips Washed Out at University Heights
5/10/2003
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Today's scheduled doubleheader between the visiting Akron Zips and the Marshall Thundering Herd only reached the bottom of the first inning before thunderstorms pounded the tri-state region, ending the day's action and forcing a suspension of play until Sunday.
Marshall and Akron will resume play from the bottom of the first inning at 11 a.m. to finish the seven-inning affair, commencing a Mother's Day tripleheader at University Heights. Game two will also be a seven-inning game with the finale scheduled for nine innings.
Corie O'Bryan (Frederick, Md.) will finish his at bat with Joe Glevenyak (West Palm Beach, Fla.) on second base and one out.
The game was delayed for two hours and 25 minutes before the umpires officially suspended play for the day.
Akron won the series opener on Friday, upending the Herd 11-6.
Marshall will honor Craig Dziedziejko (Kitchener, Ont.) and Rick Suter (St. Clairsville, Ohio), its two graduating seniors, before Sunday's tripleheader.
