Three Named To Academic All-MAC Track And Field Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio? Junior Mandy Halsey (Dunkirk, Ohio), Craig Swisher (Bidwell, Ohio) and Lucas Henger (Harrisville, W.Va.) were named to the 2003 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team Wednesday.
This is the second time this year Halsey and Swisher earned Academic All-MAC honors. Both were named to the 2003 Academic All-MAC team during the indoor season. This marks Henger?s first honor.
Halsey is a redshirt junior majoring in adult fitness and athletic training and carries a 3.70 grade point average. She recorded three second place finishes this season in the javelin throw. Swisher is a redshirt sophomore majoring in biology and carries a 3.58 grade point average. Swisher was one of the most consistent runners for the men?s team and competed in the distance events. Henger is a redshirt freshman majoring in adult fitness and carries a 3.92 grade point average. Henger was one of the top throwers for the men?s team along side Terry Stahl (Vienna, Va.) and Zach Helm (Snellville, Ga.).
The honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
As a team, Marshall has completed its season. Senior Erin Compton (Oak Hill, W.Va.) and Stahl will compete next week in the NCAA East Regional Championships at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
