Marshall fans could get ?Moore? spectacular plays from the wide receiver position than they bargained for in 2003.
Freshman Hiram Moore has literally burst onto the scene and has been an eye-opener throughout pre-season practice.
The Huntington High grad was an All-MSAC and All-State selection for Richard Williams. In his junior campaign, he had more than 800 yards receiving and scored eight touchdowns while adjusting to his first year in the receiving corps.
His final year at Huntington, Moore played on both sides of the ball, seeing time as a defensive back on the other side of the ball.
According to coach Bob Pruett, the 6-0, 185-pound West Virginia native will be called upon to play a slew of roles as he makes his transition to the collegiate ranks.
?He has been doing excellent,? Pruett said. ?We are looking at him as a punt returner as well.
?He has been doing a great job in the red zone. He has a lot of courage.?
Moore said the collegiate game is far more complex, but the goal remains quite simple.
?I just want to get in the game and not drop balls,? Moore said. ?Everything else will come into place.?
He has also seen lots of familiar faces his first week in the green and white.
?I have family out here watching me every day,? Moore said. ?It has been great.?
Pruett remains optimistic with the Herd?s progress. Marshall practiced in a slightly cooler atmosphere, calling the grass practice field home for the afternoon.
?They look wonderful,? Pruett said. ?We are scheduled to be on the practice field every afternoon throughout preseason.?
The Herd is scheduled to have two practice sessions on Wednesday, at 8 a.m. and again at 4:30 p.m. The team will hold it's first full scale scrimmage on Saturday at 2 p.m.
"Choose-A-Seat" Days at Marshall Stadium will be held on Thursday, August 14, from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday, August 16, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for fans still waiting to purchase their season tickets.
The HerdZone and RedZone season tickets, which sell for $65 and $85 respectively, are a Marshall fans' best value this fall.
Also on Saturday, the 2002 video documentary on Marshall Football called "Running With The Herd" will be sold after the scrimmage with a special autograph signing. Coach Pruett along with several graduated members of the 2002 squad will be on hand to sign copies of the video, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Big Green Scholarship Foundation.
