HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall University baseball has secured the services of Zeke Mitchem as an assistant coach for the 2003-04 season, head coach Dave Piepenbrink announced.
Mitchem, 29, comes to Marshall with an impressive record of experience, including his last stint as a Division I assistant coach at Drexel University in Philadelphia from 2000-03, a team the Herd played last season at University Heights. This past summer, Mithcem worked abroad in Costa Rica for Major League Baseball-International in which he directed practice and instruction for the Costa Rican national team.
The 1997 Tri-State (Ind.) University graduate is enthusiastic about his new position, as well as the Thundering Herd's future.
"This is a program on the rise," Mitchem said. "There are a lot of pieces in place and high expectations for the upcoming season. I'm happy to be with a team where winning is very important."
Mitchem earned a master's in science education from Henderson State, a Division II institution in Arkansas, in 2000.
