2004 MU Baseball Schedule Announced

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? The schedule for the 2004 Marshall University baseball season has been announced by head coach Dave Piepenbrink on Tuesday, with the Thundering Herd slated to open the new campaign on Feb. 14 versus Belmont University.
Marshall will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to take on the Belmont Bruins in a four-game series from Feb. 14-15. The early season road swing to the South continues the following weekend as the Herd once again returns to Charleston, S.C., for the College of Charleston Tournament. The same four-team field from 2003 returns for another year of competitive baseball, as MU will face the host Cougars on Feb. 20, George Mason on Feb. 21 and Charleston Southern on Feb. 22.
C of C and CSU upended the Thundering Herd in the tournament last season while Marshall?s game with GMU was cancelled due to rain.
Marshall closes out the month of February in Birmingham, Ala., to face the UAB Blazers in a three-game set.
West Virginia State College visits University Heights on March 3 to open up the Herd?s home schedule, quickly followed by a home date with Concord College on March 5 and a three-game weekend series with Niagara University on March 6-7.
Marshall will make the trip to Ypsilanti, Mich., on March 26-28 to open its conference schedule and to take on the 2003 Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Herd will play host to four MAC squads in the form of Miami (Ohio), Ohio, Central Michigan and Buffalo at University Heights.
Piepenbrink will lead Marshall in a slew of non-conference matchups, highlighted by road games at East Carolina (March 16), Kentucky (March 24) and Louisville (March 30).
Marshall, 22-31-1 in 2003, hopes to earn its first ever berth in the MAC Tournament, which is scheduled for May 26-29 at a site yet to be determined.
