Purple Eagles and Bulls Up Next For Herd Volleyball

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? Fresh off a 3-0 week, the Marshall volleyball team will head north to New York for a non-conference match Wednesday at Niagara and a Mid-American Conference tilt with the University at Buffalo Thursday.
Marshall 11-6 overall, 3-1 in the MAC will battle the Purple Eagles of Niagara for the first time in the history of the two programs. Niagara enters the contest with a 2-12 overall record and is led by Michelle Lesouder with 188 kills on the season.
The Herd is led by freshman sensation Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad) with 364 kills on the season (5.69 per game) She also boasts a .320 hitting percentage. The 6-3 outside hitter has won consecutive MAC-East Division Player of the Week honors and leads the team and conference with 410 points on the season. Billingy broke the Marshall single match kills record with 31 Saturday night in a 3-1 win over IPFW. Junior Amber Sims (Ney, Ohio) and freshman Stephanie Cahill (Louisville, Ky.) are next in line with 185 and 183 kills respectively for the Herd.
Marshall is also being paced by junior setter Katie Stein (Sussex, Wis.). Stein put up a career-high 74 assists Friday night at Northern Illinois, the third highest total in Marshall single match history. The junior averaged 15 assists, 3.3 digs, 1 block and 1 kill per game last week. For the season, Stein has 795 assists (12.23/game) and 17 service aces.
From Niagara, the Herd heads across town to the University at Buffalo to take on the Bulls. Buffalo enters the match with a 7-12 overall record, 0-6 in the MAC. The Bulls are paced by four players averaging more than two kills per game, Molly Schrantz (2.49), Katie Weekley (2.31), Nikki Morzenti (2.89) and Tammy Jule (2.35).
Marshall is 10-3 all-time against Buffalo.
Both matches in Buffalo, N.Y. are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
