HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Rory Page scored 13 minutes into the second half to lead the Virginia Military Institute to a 2-0 win over the Thundering Herd Wednesday at Sam Hood Field.

The Herd (7-6-2, 2-2-1 MAC) registered 18 shots, but was unable to get any past VMI goalie Thomas Upton, who tied a VMI school record with his fourth shutout of the season.

In the first half, the conditions were sloppy, which forced both teams to make adjustments. It was a pretty even half, with each team having a limited amount of chances.

Marshall came out firing in the second half, notching 14 shots in the period, but the bounces went VMI's way as Rory Page scored from the left side at the 58 minute mark on Herd goalie Joe Nebel (Brentwood, TN).

VMI struck again with less than a minute left when Charles Nweke scored in an empty net to put the game away for VMI. The win was the ninth of the season for the Keydets.

MU out-shot VMI, 18-14 for the game. Leading the Herd was senior Salvador Djeukeng (Yaouned, Cameroon), who had four shots. Brandon Mason (Trenton, NJ) had three shots. Charles Nweke led VMI with eight shots.

Marshall returns to action on Friday night when they travel to Wright State for a 7 p.m. meeting.

Sunday will mark the final regular season Mid-American Conference game for the Herd as the Buffalo Bulls will travel to Sam Hood Field for a 1 p.m. game. Admission is free.
