Herd Volleyball Set for Showdown with No. 28 Ohio
10/26/2004
HUNTINGTON, W.Va ? The Thundering Herd volleyball team will look to do something Wednesday night that the rest of the Mid-American Conference hasn?t been able to do this season?beat the Ohio Bobcats.
The Mid-American Conference-leading Bobcats are on the prowl and heading toward Huntington, Wednesday night for a MAC East Division showdown with the Thundering Herd volleyball squad at 7 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center.
Ohio, ranked No. 28 in the nation, enters the bout with the Thundering Herd with a 17-2 overall record and a blemish-free MAC record of 9-0. Marshall is in second place in the MAC East, but has lost two in a row, entering the match with a 14-8 record, 5-3 in the MAC.
One string of perfection will come to an end Wednesday night, Ohio is perfect in the MAC, and Marshall is a perfect 6-0 on the floor of the Cam Henderson Center this season.
?It?s going to be tough,? Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said. ?They?ve been the best team in our league for the past two years and are one of the best teams in the country. It?s exciting to have them here.?
This matchup features a rematch between the two teams that played for the MAC title in Muncie, Ind., last season. The Bobcats took home the league crown with a 3-0 win over the Herd. Marshall will look to avenge the loss and get a win to help boost its momentum heading into the stretch run.
It won?t be easy however, the hot Bobcats are riding an 11-match winning streak and have only dropped one game in conference play, 26-30 loss against Miami in game three Sept. 25.
As a team, Ohio is leading the league, hitting .281 on the season, Marshall is second in the conference at .245 for the year.
The Thundering Herd features freshman sensation, Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad). The 6?3 outside hitter has 475 kills on the season, just 28 shy of a Marshall single season record. Billingy?s 5.72 kills per game leads the MAC. She also leads the MAC with 40 service aces.
The Bobcats have three players hitting over .300 and the league?s top setter in Briana Adamovsky with 13.47 assists per game.
First serve is set for 7 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center. WMUL 88-1 FM will broadcast the game live. A webcast is also available at www.marshall.edu/wmul.
