BILLINGY |
Cleveland, Ohio ? The Mid-American Conference announced Monday that Marshall freshman Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad) was named as the MAC East Division Volleyball Player of the Week for her performances against Akron and Kent State.
"It's a distinguished honor," Billingy said. "I just went out and had fun, took care of business and the team played really well."
Billingy had quite an impressive week to capture her first-ever MAC East Division Player of the Week honors after averaging 7.25 kills and 7.81 points per game and hitting .448 (58-11-105) over a two-match span. She also averaged 2.38 digs and 0.50 blocks per game. The freshman opened the week with 29 kills in a three-game win at Akron, hitting an astounding .511. She also added 10 digs, two aces and a pair of blocks in the win. Billingy then had another 29 kills and hit .397 in a five-game loss at Kent State.
?It?s recognition well deserved,? Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said. ?She had an incredible offensive week and when you look at the numbers, it also shows the team recognizes that we have a franchise offensive player and can?t leave her on an island and they pick it up too.?
Billingy has 286 kills, .332 hitting percentage, 23 service aces and 320.5 points, all team highs for the season. She also has 108 digs and 20 blocks for the season.
The 6?3 outside hitter is second in the MAC in kills, third in service aces, seventh in hitting percentage and first in average points per game. In three MAC matches, Billingy is averaging 29.3 kills and a .438 hitting percentage.
Billingy is the first Herd player since Heidi Kuethe in September of 2002 to be named MAC East Player of the Week.
