Four Thundering Herd Football Players Named to All-MAC Teams

CLEVELAND - The 2004 All-Mid-American Conference football team, as voted on by the league's 14 head coaches, was announced today and four Marshall University players are among the honorees.
Marshall senior defensive end Jonathan Goddard was named to the first-team defense. Goddard, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., leads the nation in sacks with 16 (15 solo sacks) for losses of 113 yards. His 16 sacks this season set a new Mid-American Conference record for sacks in a season.
Goddard also leads the nation in tackles for loss with 28 for losses of a whopping 161 total yards. The Marshall standout is also tied for second in the nation with five forced fumbles. He has 78 tackles, five pass break-ups to his credit, and has scored on a fumble return at Ohio State and an interception return at Ohio. Goddard is also one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy for national defensive player of the year which will be awarded in Charlotte on Dec. 6th. He is the first ever Nagurski Finalist from a non-BCS school. He was a CNN/SI and College Football News midseason All-America.
The Thundering Herd's Josh Davis, Jamus Martin, and Curtis Keyes were all named to the All-MAC second team.
Davis, a senior wide receiver from Hickory Grove, S.C., currenty stands second all-time in NCAA history with 301 career receptions. He is the nation's active career yardage leader with 3,817 career receiving yards. This season, Davis has 81 catches for 847 yards and six touchdowns to his credit.
Martin, a senior defensive end from Martinsville, Va., amassed eight sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss this season. The standout senior was credited with 53 total tackles and two forced fumbles.
Keyes, a sophomore defensive back from Mt. Olive, Miss., lead the Thundering Herd with 97 total tackles, including 50 solo stops this season. Keyes was also credited with 5.5 tackles for loss, five pass break-ups, and intercepted two passes.
The Mid-American Conference specialty awards, including Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, will be announced Tuesday morning.
