Marshall Baseball Signs One For 2006
12/3/2004
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. ? Marshall University baseball coach Dave Piepenbrink announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Sean Holliday to a national letter of intent to play baseball for the Thundering Herd starting with the 2006 season.
Holliday, a Moon Township, PA native, will be finishing up his high school career with Moon High this season. He is projected to be the #1 starter for Moon this coming season.
In his freshman season at Moon, the team earned their second straight PIAA Class AAA state championship. He has seen time both on the field and on the mound, but is slated to see more time pitching for the Herd.
This past fall, Holliday played for the Allegheny Pirates. For his efforts there and in high school, West Penn Baseball Prospects newsletter named him as one of their top high school prospects. He is the brother of Brian Holliday, who is currently pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates Single-A farm club, the Hickory Crawdads.
Herd pitching coach Tom Carty is excited about the signing. ?Sean is a strong leftie with a good fastball and great arm action for a high school pitcher,? Carty said. ?Hopefully he will follow in the footsteps of some of the other western Pennsylvania pitchers to go through our program.?
