HUNTINGTON, W. Va. ? Junior Joe Glevenyak (West Palm Beach, FL) notched three doubles and four RBI?s to lead the Thundering Herd baseball team to an 8-3 win over the Cleveland State Vikings on Friday afternoon at University Heights.

The win ends the Herd?s three-game drought after reeling off seven straight wins and improves their record to 9-10. They also remain undefeated at home with a 6-0 record at University Heights. With the loss, Cleveland State drops to 1-6.

Marshall started the scoring in the bottom of the second, taking a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Glevenyak notched his first double of the day, and was brought in when Roddy Stieger (Westchester, OH) hit a single.

Their lead was short lived as the Vikings came back on Herd starting pitcher Brian Chrisman (Pittsburgh, PA). Chrisman loaded up the bases in the second with one out and was able to get out of it, but he was not as lucky in the third. The first four batters of the inning reached base and tied the game at one. Chrisman got the first out of the inning when Viking Gary Ball hit into a fielder?s choice to bring in CSU?s second run of the inning. After the next batter walked, Viking Marc Sikora hit a line drive to Adam Frederick (Franklin, PA), who caught it and threw to second to convert an inning-ending double play.

The Herd tied the game up at two in the bottom of the fourth when Glevenyak hit another RBI double. In the fifth, MU scored six runs to take an 8-2 lead. Chris Monaco (Tucson, AZ) led off the inning with a single and stole second to bring his season total to 17. After the next two batters were walked, Francois Larmore (Magnolia, NJ) hit a sacrifice fly to left to give MU a 3-2 lead.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Glevenyak notched his third double of the day to clear the bases and Marshall a 6-2 lead. Stieger and Mike Koitsopoulos (Markham, Ont.) notched consecutive RBI hits to extend the Herd?s lead to six.

Cleveland State made a run in the ninth when Doug Besozzi hit a home run off of pitcher Mike Marchyshyn (Markham, Ont.), but the scoring stopped there and Marchyshyn got out of the inning with no further damage to give MU an 8-3 victory.

Starter Brian Chrisman went three innings, giving up two runs on four hits. Senior Steve Ziroli (LaGrange, IL) came into the game in the fourth and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit. Ziroli earned the victory, improving his record to 1-1. Chris Cummings (Huntington, WV) pitched two hitless innings and Marchyshyn was brought in for the ninth, giving up one run.

Matt Kaltenback took the loss for the Vikings, dropping his record to 1-2.
