Herd Baseball Suspended In The Third Inning
5/14/2004
MUNCIE, Ind. - Today's Mid-American Conference baseball contest between the Thundering Herd and the Ball State Cardinals was suspended in the bottom half of the third inning due to severe weather in the area.
The game will resume on Saturday at Noon with Marshall holding a 4-2 lead over BSU. The first game will be played out before the regularly scheduled game is played.
Marshall started off the first inning by scoring four runs. Chris Monaco (Tucson, AZ) led off the game with a single and advanced to second on the throw. With two outs, Rich Russell (Toronto, Ont.) walked to bring up Francois Larmore (Magnolia, NJ), who hit an infield single to score the first run of the game.
Next up was MAC Player of the Week Adam Frederick (Franklin, PA), who walked to load the bases. That brought Joe Glevenyak (West Palm Beach, FL) to the plate, and he responded by hitting a base clearing double to give MU a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the second, MU threatened again. With one out, Monaco hit his second single of the day and went on to steal second and third, extending his Marshall single season record to 36. The team was unable to capitalize on his effort and the Herd kept the 4-0 lead.
Ball State cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second when Kyle Dygert his a two-run home run center field.
Play will resume on Saturday at noon, starting in the bottom half of the third inning. HerdZone.com will provide an update after the games.
