Track and Field Opens 2005 Indoor Season at WVU

Huntington, W.Va.- Marshall's track and field team starts off the 2005 season at the WVU Holiday Classic on Saturday, December 2.
Competing for the Thundering Herd are seniors Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J.) and Xavier Richards (Kingston, Jamaica). In last year's meet, Belzer finished third in the weight throw with a distance of 46'02.75 and she will be looking to claim first place this year in the event. Richards will compete in the 800m run.
Danyell Garner (Logan, W.Va.) and Nicole Kyle (Keyser, W.Va.) are the juniors competing for Marshall. Garner will compete in the 60m hurdles and long jump and Kyle in the weight throw and shot put. Last year Garner competed in the 55m hurdles, high jump and the shot put.
Marshall's underclassmen make up the majority of the competitors with six sophomores and five freshmen.
Throwing are sophomores Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.) in the weight throw and shot put and Brittani Burke (Proctorville, Ohio) in the weight throw. Last year Blankenship finished sixth in the shot put with a distance of 38'01.50. Burke claimed seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 40'07.00.
The remaining sophomores are Quinnyana Brown (Amherst, N.Y.), Cathy Morris (Erie, Pa.), Teniqua Sutton (Westbury, N.J.) and Terryn Webb (Beckley, W.Va.). Brown will run the 60m dash and participate in the long jump. Morris will also compete in the 60m dash, as well as the 200m dash. Webb will run in the 200m dash alongside of Morris, and Sutton will compete in the long jump.
First time competitors are Rachel Bilek (Hebron, Ind.), Breanna Jones (Columbia, S.C.), LaTricia Jones (Spartanburg, S.C.), Jessica Pissini (Hermitage, Pa.) and Tarrin Scott (Bellefontaine, Ohio). LaTrica Jones and Pissini are competing in both the weight throw and shot put, while Bilek is only competing in the weight throw. Breanna Jones will run in the 400m dash and Scott will compete in the 60m hurdles and long jump.
Following the Holiday Classic, Marshall will not run again until January, 13th when they compete at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
