Herd Track & Field Championship Qualifiers Prepare for East First Rounds

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The 2026 NCAA Championships East First Rounds get underway this week in Lexington at the University of Kentucky. Between the East and West First Rounds taking place simultaneously in Arkansas, the goal is to advance to the NCAA Championship Finals in Eugene, Oregon starting on June 10. Â
A program-record six Herd athletes have qualified for the East First Rounds. Lara Check (Long Jump), Cam Hamby (Triple Jump), Ryan Muktar (High Jump), Otenidi Omot (Triple Jump), Trashaun Smith (Triple Jump) and Gabriel Urraca (Shot Put) are the six qualifiers for the Herd. Gabriel Urraca - 2026 Sun Belt Outdoor All-Conference Second Team in Shot Put - Set PR mark of 18.08m at SBC Championships in event, finished 2nd. Competes Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Lara Check - 2026 Sun Belt Indoor and Outdoor Conference Champion in Long Jump - PR/Qualifying mark of 6.30m at SBC Championship. Second-straight NCAA First Rd. appearance. Competes Thursday at 6 p.m.
Ryan Muktar - Set PR of 2.12m in High Jump at Charlotte Invitational. Will make NCAA East First Round debut. Competes Friday at 2 p.m.
Cam Hamby - 2026 Sun Belt Outdoor All-Conference Third Team in Triple Jump - Set PR jump of 15.57m at SBC Championships in event, finished 3rd. Qualifier at 2025 NAIA Championships at Campbellsville, finished 3rd nationally. Competes Friday at 6 p.m.
Otenidi Omot - 2026 Sun Belt Outdoor All-Conference Second Team in Triple Jump - Set PR/school record jump of 15.64m at SBC Championships in event, finished 2nd. NJCCA All-American in event at Iowa Western. Competes Friday at 6 p.m.
Trashaun Smith - Finished 4th at 2026 Sun Belt Outdoor All-Conference Second Team in Triple Jump - Set outdoor PR jump of 15.51m at SBC Championships in event. Competes Friday at 6 p.m.
