Liberty Up Next For Baseball

3/11/2005

LYNCHBURG, Va. - After almost two weeks off, the Thundering Herd baseball team will be back in action this weekend, taking on the Liberty Flames.

Originally scheduled to be played in Huntington, the series was moved to Lynchburg due to field conditions.

The Herd has not played since the Jacksonville State series two weeks ago. Marshall earned its first two wins of the season at JSU, taking two of three in the series.

MU's starting pitching was the story in that series, with the three starters (Chris Koutsavlis (Pittsburgh, PA), Chris Cummings (Huntington, WV) and David Slovak (Louisville, KY)) combining for a 2.16 ERA over 16 2/3 innings pitched.

Roddy Stieger (Westchester, OH) led the offense in the last series, going 6-11 in the series and recording three RBI's in the series finale. Aaron Jamieson (Lindsay, Ont.) continued his solid play, going 4-14, extending his hitting streak to ten games, dating back to the final game of 2004 against Buffalo.

Liberty enters the weekend with a 9-3 record. After starting the season off 8-1, the Flames have fell in two of their last three games. In their last outing, LU downed Fairfield by a 1-0 score.

In last year's series, Marshall took an 8-5 win in game one, extending its winning streak to eight games before the Flames came back to take wins in the final two games by scores of 8-5 and 14-5, respectively.

The three-games series will take place on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with each game scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at Worthington Stadium in Lynchburg.
