HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Matt Moffett recorded four RBIs for Eastern Michigan, helping the Eagles down the Marshall baseball team, 12-7 on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, EMU (5-15, 1-2 MAC) salvages the third game of the series after being swept by the Herd (7-13, 2-1 MAC) in Saturday's doubleheader.

Marshall jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the game, scoring a pair of runs in the first and third innings. Adam Ptacek (Assaria, KS) led off the first with a single to left. With one out, Aaron Jamieson (Lindsay, Ont.) singled to bring up Joe Glevenyak (West Palm Beach, FL), who notched MU's third hit of the inning to score Ptacek. Roddy Stieger (Westchester, OH) followed Glevenyak with a sacrifice fly to knock in the second run of the inning.

In the third, Adam Frederick (Franklin, PA) singled with one out. With two outs, Glevenyak was intentionally walked to bring Stieger to the plate. Stieger, who hit a sacrifice fly in the first, doubled to left field to bring in his second run of the day. After Bubba Pfaff (Florence, CO) was given the second intentional walk of the inning to load the bases, Brent Mason (Sherwood, AR) walked to bring in the fourth run of the game.

EMU's offense finally got to MU starting pitcher David Slovak (Louisville, KY) in the fourth inning when Derek Lehrman hit a home run to deep center field. The Eagles got to within a run in the fifth, putting up two more runs. With one out and one man on base, Ben Jones bunted to third base. Adam Frederick overthrew Roddy Stieger at first on the play, allowing the runner on base to score and Jones to advance to third. Next up was Jeff Hehr, who hit into a fielder's choice to score the third run of the game for the Eagles.

The Herd got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but the EMU offense got it right back in the top of the sixth and, in the seventh, took their first lead of the game. They scored three runs on three hits and three walks to take a 7-5 lead. Matt Moffett knocked in a pair of runs with a double and Brad Hrovat recorded an RBI single to bring in the runs.

MU did not give up, tying the game up in the bottom of the inning. Adam Ptacek led off with a single and Adam Frederick followed that up with a home run to right field, his second of the weekend, to make it a 7-7 game.

The Eagles put the game away, though, scoring three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to put away the Herd, 12-7.

Taking the win for the Eagles was starter George Biddle, who went seven innings, giving up the seven runs. His record improves to 2-3. Matt Dillard, who pitched the final two innings, notched his first save of the season. For MU, David Slovak went six innings, giving up four runs. Bryson Meyers (Oakland, MD) went 1/3 of an inning, giving up two runs and walking two batters. Brendon Bump (Lawrence, KS), making his third appearance of the weekend, gave up six runs, five of them earned, in two innings. He took the loss, dropping to 1-2. Mike Marchyshyn (Markham, Ont.) went the final 2/3 giving up a hit and striking out one.

Frederick and Stieger led MU's offense, both knocking in a pair of runs. Frederick, along with Aaron Jamieson, each scored two runs. For the Eagles, Matt Moffett went 2-4 with four RBI's. Derek Lehrman also had a solid day at the plate, going 4-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

The Herd will take to the road for the next four games. On Wednesday, MU will take on Eastern Kentucky at 3 p.m. before heading to Miami (Ohio) for a three-game set next weekend. The next home series starts on April 8 when Kent State comes to town for a conference series.
