Eagles Notch 16 Hits in Win Over Baseball

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Bryan Ingram batted in three runs and scored two more to help Morehead State topple Marshall, 14-6, Wednesday at University Heights.

Ingram was one of three MSU batters to record three RBI?s on the day. Morehead State improves to 18-14 with the win while the Herd drops to 10-18.

Morehead opened up the scoring in the top of the second when Kevin Bryan hit a solo home run. In the bottom of the third, Marshall took its first lead of the game. With two outs, Aaron Levinson (Seattle, WA) hit into a fielder?s choice to get on base and would move to second on a single by Roddy Stieger (Westchester, OH). That brought up freshman Tommy Johnson (Gaithersburg, MD), who singled to right to score Levinson. Bubba Pfaff (Florence, CO) followed that up with another single to score Stieger and make it a 2-1 game.

In the top of the fourth, MSU opened things up with a four-run inning. Lance Seasor recorded an RBI single in the inning while two runs score on bases loaded walks and another scored on a hit batter with the bases loaded. Seasor got his second RBI of the game in the fifth when he doubled down the right field line to score Pete Troyer, who reached on a walk.

The bottom of the sixth saw the Herd score three times to make it a 6-5 game. Bubba Pfaff and Brent Mason (Sherwood, AR) both walked to start the inning. Adam Ptacek (Assaria, KS) was up next and doubled to bring in Pfaff. A ground out to second by Adam Frederick (Franklin, PA) brought in Mason. Later in the inning, another ground out to second, this time by Aaron Jamieson (Lindsay, Ont.) brought in the third run of the inning.

Over the next two innings, Morehead State put the game out of reach, scoring eight runs. Five runs crossed the plate in the top of the seventh while three more scored in the eighth. With two men on base, Paul Rhodes homered to right center to bring in the first three runs. Later in the inning, Jarred Seasor doubled to bring in two more runs. In the eighth, three more runs scored, including two on a home run by Bryan Ingram.

The Herd mustered a run in the ninth when Chris Peak (Barboursville, WV) doubled to lead off the inning and would later score on a wild pitch to make it a 14-6 game.

Starter Andrew Hancock (Ashland, KY) took the loss in the game, dropping to 1-3. He went 3 2/3 innings giving up five runs. For the eagles, Matt Clark pitched five innings giving up four runs and took his second win of the season.

Adam Ptacek led the Marshall offense, going 3-3 with a run and an RBI. Jamieson and Pfaff each registered two hits. Morehead out-hit Marshall, 16-11.

The Herd will look to rebound from two tough outings, heading to Athens, Ohio to face Ohio U. They will face off in three games, starting on Friday night at 7 p.m.. Saturday?s game is also scheduled for a 7 p.m. start while Sunday will have a 1 p.m. first pitch. Sunday?s game can be heard on 930 AM WRVC.
