RICHMOND, Ky. - Three field athletes finished first to lead Marshall at the Eastern Kentucky University Open on Friday.
Sophomores Brittani Keeney (Proctorville, Ohio) and Danyell Garner (Logan, W.Va.) placed first in the discus (141-09) and the long jump (18-02.00), respectively. Freshman Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.) also added a first place finish in the shot put with a distance of 39 feet 2 inch.
On the track the Thundering Herd was led by junior Karmen Collins (Slicklerville, N.J.) who finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.60. Senior Ashli Creal (Chicago, Ill.) added two top five finishes by placing fourth in the 200-meter (25.59) and fifth in the 100-meter (12.40).
Also in the 200-meter dash Taneshia Becton (Pennsauken, N.J.) and Xavier Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) tied for sixth with a time of 26.13.
Senior distance runner Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.) had a fifth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.06.
The Herd will next appear at the Penn Relays on April 28-29.
